"As an example of the size of this illegal enterprise, over $1 million per week in illegal wagers were being placed, and an average of $500,000 per week was being paid out and/or collected by D'Alessio and his co-conspirators," said John Molinelli, who was the Bergen County prosecutor at the time."

The dark side of Politics

A somewhat sad article appeared on NorthJersey.com today......

http://www.northjersey.com/news/crime-and-courts/mahwah-mayor-top-cop-accused-of-plot-1.1604221

A quote from this article is very interesting...

"In 2012, Sinclair lost a hotly contested election to Laforet, the incumbent, and subsequently became the target of retaliatory actions that included the discontinuation in 2013 of Sinclair's extra compensation of $6,000 a year for serving as the township's licensed sewer operator, and an attempt to thwart Sinclair's promotion to DPW director in 2014 by pushing for the selection of a former Lodi police chief who was a close friend of the mayor and Batelli, the suit said."

Mahwah Mayor William C. Laforet and Mawah Police Chief James N. Batelli

According to Caruso's LinkedIn page......

Chief of Police
Lodi Police Department
January 2003 – July 2014 (11 years 7 months)

Even with Caruso's enormous pay-out, he was still pushing for "Public" employment, of course his "other" good friend, former Lodi DPW director Gerry Woods could have given him some good advise on how to RUN things......
